What I Wore Wednesday…the Boxing Day edition

This is my vintage sweater on my mom's lovely quilt.

In all honestly, I usually stay in my PJs and staunchly refuse to wash my hair on Boxing Day.

But, this year my mom and I are going to check out post-Christmas (even though there are actually twelve days of Christmas, and retailers don’t understand liturgical seasons) sales on UKULELES. Santa brought me some cash, man.

Anyway, because I might need to appear before decent society, I washed my hair and put on presentable clothing. I’m also layered like mad because I haven’t set foot out in today’s snow showers and I’m already cold.

Sweater yoke detailing. Super cute, eh?

And I’m wearing this sweater. I bought this sweater years ago (read: early 2000’s) at a church rummage sale. I thought that it was modern and stylish. In retrospect, this is probably because of the renewed sense of interest vintage styles in that time. So, I thought it was a new sweater because new sweaters were being patterned after OLD sweaters.

I was young.

You know what? This sweater isn’t from the 2000’s. I’m not sure when it was made but since it’s acrylic I know that it was made in the post-40’s era. Check out the tag, too…I tried googling the brand but that didn’t help me at all. So, is it from the 40’s? The 60’s? That shall remain a mystery.

Once I wore it to one of my sister’s soccer games and a guy there said, “I would probably like you more if you weren’t wearing a sweater that reminded me of my grandma.”

And I was like, “Hahaha.”

But internally I was like, “YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW ME, BRO!! Your negativity is not worth my time…or my awesome sweater.”

Good story, huh?

Anyway, it’s maroon, with hunter green and navy blue making their way into the yoke-pattern. The sweater is warm and beautiful and even a bit festive, so I hold on to it for days I need to check all of those boxes.

Here I am perched like an owl on my bathtub. It is because (1) I have core-strength and (2) I cleaned today, and that bathtub was one of the things I cleaned. Enjoy. I'm wearing two shirts, jeans, and a scarf I received from the aunt who picked my name for Christmas. Woo hoo!

  1. Happy St. Stephen’s day!! 1) that sweater is awesome. That Bro doesn’t know what he’s missing out on 2) If you get a ukulele we can jam and it will be cute and hipstery

    1. Yeah! And become FAMOUS and we’ll get on “The Chew” and I’ll wear my sweater and he’ll see it and be like, “My grandma is a cooler woman than I knew.”
And then we’ll win all the prizes. Especially the ukulele prizes.

  2. Very cute. I have seen the cursive label on sweaters from the 50s but the style was in print ads for 1966. By the 70s they were using a printed label, not the cursive. Narrows the field a bit.

    1. Good to know! I always thought it was kind of 50s-ish, but I couldn’t find anyone to agree. Now that I have found you and your agreement, I can narrow the field to between 1941 (when acrylic was invented, per the internet) and 1966. Good to know! It’s still going strong, too. 😀
