Sunday was beautiful, so I decided to go for a hike. I was like, “Maybe I can ask a friend, and they’ll want to hike with me.”
But, Julia is in grad school. And Hanna is now moved away. So instead I hiked alone, and I thought about that miserable time Hanna and I walked THIRTY-FIVE MILES over the course of two days with no water or bathrooms or sanity for miles (“Why do the guides say it takes three days?” “They’re probably just not as prepared as we are.” Riiiiight.) But, as with most things, once you’re removed from the situation, it doesn’t seem so bad anymore. It just seems nostalgic and fun and memorable (this is why people walk the Camino more than once, kidlets), and so it was on Sunday. Only: I was alone, and when I laughed to myself, “…and remember when we met those people who were like, ‘When we hike we carry water-purifiers…” I kind of wished I was sharing that moment with Hanna.
Today I started researching natural dyes (avocados dye things pink! Who knew? Who would have imagined??) and I was like, “Wow, I’d like to try my hand at the natural dying process, maybe this week sometime, maybe with a friend…” but then I trailed off because my pardner in dirty, experimental crafting is the same pardner of wilderness survival, and homegirn just moved a few states over.Also. Sometimes I get into craftings or animals or whatever, and then I “research” them and right now I’m loving felted mice because they’re so cute, even though I know that if I had one I’d be like, “What do I even do with this?” SMALL MATTERS. Pinterest link to a bunch of thems so you can see what I’m talking about. Cute, right??? And I wanted to show Hanna, since she lives that felting life. Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, now this will only be done over the internets.
Now, I’m actually happy for Hanna, excited for the new possibilities in her life. She’s her own woman, and that’s a great thing.
But, if you have interests ranging from wilderness survival/ hiking to intense crafting to looking at internet pictures of animals, there’s a position open.
Not that she can be replaced, mind you. 😉
