Our Lady of Detroit

Been working on some art, fam.

Well, this one is some older art, from the summer vacation I took with my cousin, Hanna, on the western side of the state in the dunes and trees and water and beauty of Lake Michigan.

Bam:

Our Lady of Detroit - smaller

Te gusta?

I call her, “Our Lady of Detroit,” made originally for one friend, but then my sister was like, “SEND ME A PRINT OF THAT,” so the love has already been shared.

Watercolor with ink, a personal favorite medium, with religious symbolism just por que. Mary is pointing to Jesus, dove of peace on her finger, baby-wearin’, 2 blossoms of Queen Anne’s Lace on her head, killing an eastern massasauga rattlesnake (Michigan’s only venomous snake). She is surrounded in the traditional iconography shape…only with Queen Anne’s lace, a homage to Detroit. You can catch a bit of the Detroit skyline behind her. 🙂

Livin’ large, baby.

Also!!! Today is November 30, the feast of St. Andrew. One of my favorite, favorite prayers is this sucker, prayed 15 times per day from here to Christmas. I find that it helps me (a little bit) keep the arrival of the sweet, sweet baby Jesus in my mind…at least for a few seconds in this hectic season. 🙂

St. Andrew Christmas Novena
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born Of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in the piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His blessed Mother. Amen.
